Cargo scam uncovered when recovering stolen vehicle

An internal cargo scam was unwittingly uncovered by Matrix Vehicle Tracking when they responded to a call for a Foton combi that had been hijacked in Dobsonville, Soweto by four armed men last night.

Hannelie Snow, Matrix Vehicle Tracking Communications Manager confirmed that when searching the Dube hostels in Soweto for the vehicle,   the recovery team noticed three suspect individuals offloading cargo from a truck. The situation appeared suspicious and the recovery team decided to contact the owner of the truck who confirmed that they had been desperately trying to prove that cargo, costing the company thousands of rand per month, was being illegally offloaded.

The owner of the truck company said that three of his employees, who had been in his employee for about four years, were caught offloading cargo into one of the truck driver’s homes. “One of the drivers uses the truck to drive home at the end of the day and used this opportunity to steal the left-over cargo. If the Matrix Vehicle Tracking representatives hadn’t stopped and questioned the men, I would still be in the dark about the missing cargo,” he said. “Matrix Vehicle Tracking did an excellent job being so pro-active and alert.”

The recovery team contacted the SAPS and handed the three suspects and the vehicle over to the SAPS for further investigation on the request of the vehicle owner

The day ended on a good note with the hijacked Foton also being recovered.
