Lucky break for vehicle owners

It was the pro-active thinking of the Matrix Vehicle Tracking ground recovery team that saw the recovery of two stolen vehicles in Bryanston last night, the first being a Hyundai with a Matrix Vehicle Tracking unit installed and the other a VW Polo Avis rental car, without a tracking unit installed.

A Matrix Vehicle Tracking customer phoned in reporting that their Hyundai and a VW Polo had been stolen during a house robbery in Alexandra at 22:57 on the 17th of  August.

Four suspects entered the property wielding an R4 rifle and three 9mm pistols and made off with TVs, cell phones, jewellery, computers and other household items as well as the two vehicles.

Fortunately, since the Hyundai was fitted with a Matrix Vehicle Tracking unit it was recovered within an hour in Alexandra by the recovery team.

The suspects damaged the rear light and bumper as they had an accident with the vehicle by reversing into a pole. However the owner’s personal belongings including ID documents, money cards, GPS Navigator, CDs and other items were still inside the vehicle.

Since the VW Polo did not have a tracking unit installed there was little hope of recovering the vehicle. However, as the Matrix Vehicle Tracking ground recovery team was leaving Alexandra, they spotted a suspect vehicle and stopped to investigate. The SAPS was called in and it was confirmed that the suspect vehicle was in fact the stolen VW Polo taken at the house robbery scene.

Both vehicles were recovered within a kilometre of each other.

Hannelie Snow, Communications Manager of Matrix Vehicle Tracking, said they were very pleased that both vehicles had been recovered. “Our ground teams are trained to look out for any suspicious behaviour and this incident has proved the value of this training.”
