The economic downturn has dealt the helping hands of the business sector a severe blow. Many companies have been unable to continue their support of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) – and thus millions of less fortunate people in our society such as orphans and vulnerable children.
Despite the harsh economic climate, MiX Telematics continues to empower orphans and vulnerable children to ensure that they are given a brighter tomorrow.
The lives of the children from Randfontein and Tembisa have forever been changed by the passion and kinship of MiX Telematics. The company has left a lasting impression on hundreds of children through education that focuses on creating a skilled workforce for tomorrow.
MiX Telematics works with Heartbeat, an NGO whose mission it is to empower orphaned and vulnerable children to reach their full potential through quality service provision, development and capacity building. As Gert Pretorius, MD of MiX Telematics (Enterprise), said: “We are aware that society will increasingly expect business to have sustained and positive partnerships with civil society. MiX Telematics is committed to having a positive impact on the development of communities. We see a need and are willing to spend considerable resources to achieve this objective. In this regard MiX Telematics’ partnership with Heartbeat has led to encouraging developmental impacts on the Tembisa and Randfontein communities.”
MiX Telematics has chosen to work with Heartbeat in order to serve the interests of Tembisa and Randfontein. MiX Telematics has made a significant contribution toward the renovation of Tembisa’s After School Centre, which has lead to greater attendance of Heartbeat’s homework assistance programme.
Heartbeat has benefited from MiX Telematics’ organisational, financial and professional resources, while MiX Telematics has gained a great deal from Heartbeat’s expertise. The resultant partnership is sustainable, replicable and has made South Africa a better place for orphans and vulnerable children to live.
